America is the global Bitcoin superpower

The Founding Fathers could never have imagined the world 250 years after declaring independence. But in keeping with their pursuit of freedom and individual liberties, they would have understood the value of Bitcoin immediately.

It is no coincidence that the country founded on individual rights and free markets is also where Bitcoin adoption is strongest.

Americans own the most bitcoin

According to our own research, Americans hold an estimated 42% of all bitcoin. For perspective: America holds 34% of global wealth, produces 26% of global GDP, and has 4% of the world’s population.

America’s bitcoin dominance is more pronounced than most other economic metrics.

Bitcoin ownership in America is widespread. According to the Nakamoto Project, an estimated 49.6 million American adults (18.6%) own bitcoin, compared to 28.8 million (10.8%) who own gold.

America mines the most bitcoin

Today, 37.5% of Bitcoin’s global hashrate is running in the U.S. That is more than the next five countries combined.

Mining is only part of the footprint. More than 150 Bitcoin companies are headquartered in the U.S., including River, as well as 50+ mining sites that each draw over 10 megawatts of power.

Many of these miners buy surplus electricity that would otherwise go to waste, and can power down within seconds when the grid is strained, making them a valuable resource to help balance America’s electrical infrastructure.

American companies are leading business Bitcoin adoption

U.S. public companies hold 1.24 million BTC, or 92.7% of all bitcoin held by public companies worldwide.

American public companies added 510,000 BTC in the past 12 months, more than three times the supply of bitcoin mined over the same period.

The U.S. government is pro-Bitcoin

The U.S. government holds 328,372 BTC. That is almost three times as much as every other government on Earth combined.

In Washington, a majority of politicians across party lines are pro-Bitcoin, according to think tank Stand with Crypto.

It’s no mystery why Americans are ahead when it comes to Bitcoin adoption: Our desire for financial freedom started 250 years ago.

Today, Americans increasingly realize how bitcoin helps them accomplish financial freedom, more than any other tool in history.
