Before sending and receiving Bitcoin is enabled, you will be asked to verify your identity . Once your identity has been verified, you will have Bitcoin sending and receiving enabled in your account.
The Lightning Network is a protocol that enables instant, low-cost Bitcoin transactions. River currently supports receiving up to 0.5 BTC with Lightning and sending up to 0.5 BTC with Lightning.
You can only use the Lightning Network if the non-River wallet you are sending from also supports Lightning. You can also view how to send Bitcoin via on-chain here.
Receiving with Lightning
1. Click "Transfer" in the navigation bar at the top of your screen.

2. Click "Transfer Bitcoin" and then click "Next".

3. Click "Receive to River Account” and then click "Next".

4. Select the "Lightning Transfer" option and click "Next".

5. Select the River account you wish to receive Bitcoin to and enter the amount you will be receiving.

4. You will now see a Lightning invoice, represented as a QR code and a long alphanumeric string. Pay the invoice from your non-River Lightning wallet by scanning the QR code or by copying and pasting the Lightning invoice text.

5. You will receive this confirmation to indicate your Lightning Network transaction was successful.

Sending with Lightning
1. Click "Transfer" in the navigation bar at the top of your screen.

2. Click "Transfer Bitcoin" and then click "Next".

3. Click "Send from River Account” and then click "Next".

4. Select the "Lightning Transfer" option and click "Next".

5. Select the River account from which you wish to send Bitcoin.

6. Next, paste the Lightning invoice you wish to pay. When you paste the invoice, the amount will be automatically populated.

7. Please confirm the details of your transaction. Check that the amount is accurate and click "Confirm".

7. You will receive this confirmation to indicate your Lightning Network transaction was successful.
