Meet the Team: Rod Roudi

1. What made you decide to pursue a career in Bitcoin?

Once I fell down the Bitcoin rabbit role, I did not want to do work on anything else. A bit before my daughter was born, I had a dream (nightmare). My daughter was presenting in front of her elementary school class and the topic was “What does your daddy do.” I see her standing up proudly saying how her daddy helps big companies get people to consume more and more and more. Pretty lame legacy.

I believe Bitcoin is one of the greatest inventions of all-time. If I can make a breadcrumb of difference, I believe my daughter would be proud of her dad and more importantly, inspired to work on something that can truly help the world.

2. What’s your role at River Financial?

Educate and serve our clients. My personal KPI is whether or not a client recommends River to their friends, family, colleagues. I also lead the GTM strategy and marketing.

3. What did you do before joining River?

I worked at BTC Inc, the parent company of Bitcoin Magazine and host of the annual Bitcoin conference, Bitcoin 2019. Prior to that, I had a variety of sales and marketing leadership roles at tech companies ranging from startups to publicly traded companies.

4. What projects or advancements do you think are most exciting in the Bitcoin space right now?

I will save the technical advancements like taproot, erlay, and others for people that are much smarter than me.

In general, I am fascinated to see people’s behaviors change because the underlying incentives change. For example, consumer/individual adoption of sats as the standard in the near future (now for many people) is really interesting to me -- the loyalty points industry (credit card points vs earning sats), the gaming industry (why play a game where you cannot earn sats?), gig/freelance workers (live in Chiang Mai and work on a variety of projects and be paid in sats) are just a few examples.

5. Where do you see Bitcoin in 10 years?

Miners still mining, nodes still noding, and Bitcoin still Bitcoining :-)

6. Describe Bitcoin in 5 words or less.

7. What are some of your favorite hobbies or interests?

If not spending time with my family, I enjoy reading all things Bitcoin, playing tabletop games like backgammon, or chess. And pretty much any outdoor games like basketball, golf, tennis, soccer. I am also a decent table tennis player.
